I tried putting the drive in a SATA enclosure and mounting it via USB in VirtualBox but the installer is too smart and really wants the drive on the SATA bus. I over thought things and tried not to run the Windows only app to unlock it (why WD did this I don't know it's kind of a dick move). It turns out that the 1 TB drive is locked out unless you run the WD Installer app. WD says the drive is not compatible with a Mac but I did some research before buying it.

It also looks cool (not that you can see it much after install but shut up it's cool!). You can add a second Hard Drive by removing the optical drive, replace a dead battery.
